Lawyers for the Armenian conductor Sergey Smbatyan have notified us that the public prosecutor has ordered the cessation of the criminal prosecution against him for fraud ‘on the basis that he did not commit the guilty act.’

Smbatyan, 36, is one of Armenia’s few recognised international conductors. He is principal conductor of the Malta Philharmonic.

It is not clear if his father Armen Smbatyan, a retired diplomat, has also been cleared.
