Concertgebouw books JE Gardiner’s body double
OrchestrasThe Dutch have replaced Sir John Eliot Gardiner in Brahms’ German Requiem next March with Dinis Sousa, the young conductor who stepped in after JEG’s spot of bother in August.
Gardiner, the press release says, has withdrawn from the Dutch performances ‘for personal reasons’.
Our sources expect him to return in late spring 2024.
Meanwhile, his young Portuguese stand-in is making one debut after the next.
Disa is the Associate Conductor of the Monteverdi Choir (singing in the Brahms) and the other ensembles, so not exactly just Gardiner’s stand-in.
The Concertgebouw hasn’t yet got around to updating its website, still welcoming JEG back at the moment!
