Carmen is evacuated during fire
OperaAn outbreak of fire in a theatre – common in the 19th century, rare nowadays – caused a performance of Bizet’s opera to be halted and the public removed on Friday night at the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin, northern Germany.
Some 500 people were taken for safety to the neighbouring State Chancellery. The fire broke out at a side entrance and smoke penetrated the auditorium. Police are investigating a possible criminal cause.
