The Belgium-based Outhere Music has acquired the Delos classical label, founded 50 years ago in California. A pioneer of digital recording, Delos has a backlist of 680 titles by the likes of Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Renee Fleming, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Gerard Schwarz and Constantine Orbelian.

Carol Rosenberger, Delos owner, says: ‘Our founder, Amelia Haygood, grew up loving classical music, and helped many people in her profession as a psychologist. As she got to know a number of American musical artists, she was shocked that so few were being recorded, and decided to start a recording company herself. As Delos grew, it attracted top artists, was hailed ‘the great American label’ by Billboard, and was enthusiastically welcomed worldwide. It is gratifying to know that the Delos tradition will be carried into the future by Outhere, a proven industry leader revered for its high standards and wide scope of interests.’

I thought Naxos had acquired Delos and have already released some of those recordings on the Naxos label. In any event, it’s good that those recordings will have chance to still be available.

DELOS also released a number of recordings of Sir Richard Rodney Bennett
