The orchestra, following government guidance in a national emergency, has cancelled its season opening concerts and all other events.

Tonight, however, it will stream an empty-hall concert from Tel Aviv with chief conductor Lahav Shani.

The programme is
Hatikvah
Paul Ben Haim Fanfare for Israel
Beethoven Eroica Symphony.

Watch here at 5pm London time, noon New York, to show sympathy for suffering humanity.

Comments

  • MHTE says:

    6.00pm Vienna.

  • Ed in Texas says:

Watching it now. Beethoven’s Third profoundly changed music forever. Do you thing the orchestra is sending a message? Perhaps that things are about to change? Just my two cents, and what I sense.

  • Robert Holmén says:

Has this happened to all scheduled gatherings

  • JEFFREY PHILLIPS says:

Thank you for letting us know about this. It was a deeply moving concert. I am so glad I watched.

  • Evelyn and Martin says:

We want all Israel to know that American Jews support them. The horror of the attack and the barbarity is not lost on us. We admire your courage in presenting this performance is not on us.
    We value culture not killing.

  • Jennifer Hillman says:

Thank you so much for transmitting this.
    Am Yisrael Chai

  • Ahuva says:

I just heard the concert, which was brilliant, moving and meaningful. As were the words spoken by Lahav Shani. And it was not a concert for “suffering humanity”but in memory of those brutally murdered,
Injured and taken hostage. The IPO has always stood firm in the face of all of Israel’s difficulties. It is a wonderful beacon of light and beauty in a world of darkness.

  • James says:

Very moving, almost unbearably so, to see the pictures of the abducted in the otherwise empty stalls.

  • Cavaradossi says:

And who will show sympathy for the human atrocity of bombing schools, historic orthodox churches and hospitals

    • Lisa Kremens says:

One hopes all people of good will and peaceful aspirations will show sympathy for all the innocent people affected by this horrifying attack and its subsequent retaliations.
I think of this in Ukraine as well as Gaza.
May reason and civility one day prevail, sooner rather than later.

    • Charles S says:

Certainly not Hamas who set their rocket launchers near or inside those locations,

    • Stella says:

      Scarpia

  • Shulamith Lebowitz says:

Been occupied all day and missed it. Iit still available perhaps Tube? A truly wonderful gesture, and I would love to able to hear it.

  • Keren says:

Beautiful concert….my heart is with you

  • Vaquero357 says:

Thank you for the notice about this concert! It’s still on the Israel Phil’s YT channel, so if you missed it live you can still watch/listen. I dare anybody to do it WITHOUT tears coming to your eyes at some point during the music.
