Death of French opera director, 90
RIPThe Argentine-born theatre and opera director Jorge Lavelli has passed away in Paris.
In opera, he worked mostly in Paris, Vienna, La Scala and Aix-en-Provence, staging works by Bartók, Bizet, Debussy, von Einem, Gounod, Janáček, Luigi Nono, Maurice Ohana, Prokofiev, Stravinsky and Sutermeister.
A lovely man. His earlier work was frequently stunning but he was often completely out of his depth in later years. We will remember his fine contribution to the stage.
