Barenboim-Said Mideast orchestra is back in rehearsal
NewsThe Barenboim-Said Academy will give a concert on Monday in the Pierre Boulez comprising students from Israel, Palestine, Iran, Egypt and Lebanon.
Michael Barenboim, the Academy’s Dean, says: ‘ “They are very special people, because they show endless solidarity with each other, they are there for each other, they listen to each other, they talk to each other and are there to support each other. And I believe they are the best example of how it is possible. To be able to offer an alternative to what we see in the news.’

I miss the good old days when the mentally ill received hospice care. And mostly lived there.
Perhaps the son will show some greater level of moral stance and will condemn the Hamas atrocities? At the moment, any Barenboim-titled endeavor, as distinguished as it may be, is morally tainted.
Nothing to do with real life or the reality on the ground. May they make pretty music and all that but for Gaza, it’s over. That, of their own making.
Yes, they are a good example.
But the people who care about them, are irrelevant in the big picture.
And the people who are relevant, don‘t care about you and your peace orchestra. Such are the grim realities of our current world affairs.
Nepotism anyone?
An idea for repertoire: John Adams “The Death of Klinghoffer”.
Wonderful news. Thank you for sharing, Norman.
For the critics here: Barenboim-Said Foundation is doing its part to improve communication between conflicting cultures, during a horrific war, no less. Music can’t solve this crisis, but it can help.
Barenboim, at least, is doing something. What exactly are you doing besides being vociferous armchair critics in a music blog? Inexcusable.
