  • Nathaniel Rosen says:

Angela Davis? Are you kidding? A disgrace.

  • msc says:

    “Conscience of a generation?” Madness.

  • PaulD says:

“She will share the pivotal moments of her life journey. ” Will that include discussion about her trip to the gun shop to buy the weapons used in the kidnap and murder of a California judge?

  • Barry says:

That’s a very quaint way of describing her. I have little doubt as to what her reaction was when she heard about last Saturday’s atrocities. Add to that the fact that this “educator” is one of those most responsible for crafting and pushing the curriculum that is leading to many of our young people to come out of their educational experience as the sort of people we saw celebrating the massacre on countless American college campuses.

  • minacciosa says:

Seriously? Is this a good look for an orchestra? Any orchestra? Only someone with cursory and the barest knowledge of US history could call Angela Davis the “conscience of a generation”. Have you any idea what she stood for and remains unrepentant of? Obviously, that is a rhetorical question. You don’t.

  • Mr. Ron says:

She has done far more good than bad in life. Despite what her critics here say.

    Well done!

  • Tim says:

I’m not sure this guy has more than the vaguest knowledge of who Angela Davis is or what she stands for.

Interesting and predictable comments here. Maybe they should instead honor the slave-owners George Washington and Thomas Jefferson instead?

  • Laura Prichard says:

Davis first gained fame in the 1960-70s through her work within second-wave feminism and Marxist advocacy, specifically fighting against the firing of Communist professors at University of California. More recently, she has fought for prison abolition and spoken out in support of Occupy Wall Street, and Black Lives Matter.

Davis has been a controversial figure for her entire career, but recently institutions like UCLA, Pomona College, and The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, who opposed Davis in the past, have invited her back to lecture and receive awards.
