Calgary Opera’s Board of Directors launched an international search for a new leader upon receipt of General Director and CEO Heather Kitchen’s notice of intention to leave the company. Ms. Kitchen will continue in this role through late November to ensure a smooth transition.
North by Northwest? Calgary is east of Seattle, which is on the west coast of North America, not very far from Vancouver.
A quick check reveals that Calgary is actually North East of Seattle. Something called the.Rocky Mountains has to be crossed.
Calgary is NNE of Seattle, not NNW.
I mean no disrespect to Sue Elliott, but to call her Seattle’s “Ring master”, and read that she curated Seattle Opera’s Ring cycle seems a little generous to me. Speight Jenkins frankly owns that distinction.
Agreed. She did presentations each morning during the Ring in 2013. They were terrific!
The media release from Calgary stated that she curated the Ring Cycle Festival, which I believe is the marketing slogan that Seattle Opera uses for the associated programming that goes along with the mainstage performances. Includes many events every day of the cycle and the dark days btw performances were also chock-full of events. I know Sue, she would never claim what are rightly Speight Jenkins’s accolades.
