Pole lands Swiss post
NewsThe Orchestre symphonique de Berne has appointed Krzysztof Urbański as its next music director, starting in 2024.
Urbański, 40, has been freelancing since leaving the Inidiannapolis Symphony in 2021. He takes over in Berne from the Swiss conductor Mario Venzago.
and James Conlon will be principal guest conductor this coming season.
btw: why not call the orchestra ‘Bern Symphony’?
why not – because of the ‘Pole’ – use some polish translation even?
perhaps even simpler, though: its actual name ‘Berner Symphonieorchester’.
He follows Venzago in Indianapolis and now Bern. Wherever Venzago is going next, Urbanski may want to look into buying an apartment…
And don’t forget Venzago was the music director in Indianapolis before Urbanski. They seem to be following each other.
He’ll replace all the older players.
Urbanski has been quiet lately. He was making recordings with the NDR Elbephilharmonie on Alpha, but those have dried up.
I quite like Krzysztof- he’s got a lot of charisma on the podium- an increasingly rare commodity these days.
