The Azerbaijan tenor and Government propagandist has rejoiced in a message (below) at the removal of Armenians from the conquered enclave of Nagorno Karabakh.

The message, in Azeri, translates as: ‘The reintegration of the Armenian population living in the Karabakh economic region has begun in accordance with the constitutional requirements of Azerbaijan!’

  • L. says:

    Could we cancel him, please?

  • Roland says:

I hope concert hall directors in the free world have read this message and finally draw the right conclusions. No invitations in the free world any more for Eyvazov! Eyvazov, go home to Azerbaidjan and take your wife with you right away. The ugly grimace of racism which both of you show off on and on is digusting!

    • Musician from the Global Majority says:

Fascinating to see someone, without irony, using the phrase “go home to Azerbaijan” and yet accusing others of racism!

  • Tom Phillips says:

Not only should be banned from all future performance he should be tried as a war criminal just like he and his wife’s beloved Putin.

  • Musician from the Global Majority says:

Well, the position that Nagorno-Karabakh together with its population should be reintegrated into Azerbaijan is also officially supported by NATO. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s hypocritical for an American to be criticising an Azeri on this issue when technically the US is calling for the same thing!

    • Not really says:

NATO is really more supportive of not having migration en masse out of the region, which is happening because the indigenous populations there cannot trust Aliyev’s dictatorship or military to uphold any promises they’ve pretended to make. With countless horror stories of civilians being murdered or disappearing altogether in the past week, it’s no wonder over half the population of Nagorno-Karabakh has fled in under a week. Aliyev has openly stated that the Armenians of this area were brainwashed into thinking they were Armenian, when he says they were always Azerbaijani. How the leader of a country whose identity really only came into existence a century ago (compared to Armenia, which has historically existed as a country since before Rome) is beyond me. So what kind of integration is Mr. Eyvasov talking about? To be a citizen of Aliyev’s Azerbaijan means to have no freedom of the press, your civil rights trampled on, and, if one is the wrong ethnicity, to potentially be targeted for hate crimes every now and then.

  • tramonto says:

So he’s not just a mediocre minstrel but an odious character to boot?!

    • Tom Phillips says:

And this wasn’t the first time on social media that this hideous subhuman has cheered on the ethnic cleansing/genocide of Armenians.

  • A.L. says:

Figures. How much longer before this couple gets banned everywhere forever? Why does the Staatsoper Berlin still have him in their roster for Radamès? And didn’t he fail to show up for rehearsals in order to fly to Azerbaijan, to root for the notoriously corrupt motherland?

  • Potpourri says:

“The reintegration of the Armenian population living in the Karabakh economic region has been started within the framework of the constitutional requirements of Azerbaijan.” This is not “ethnic cleansing.” The Armenians are welcome to stay and are not being expelled. Nagorno-Karabakh is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan
The Armenian Apostolic Church is Orthodox. Azerbaijan is Moslem. Armenia has been supported by Russia which is traditionally Orthodox . The failure of Russia to offer more assistance to Armenia is seen as further evidence of Russia’s weakness.
This has been a complicated situation since the collapse of the
    Soviet Union.

  • Tamino says:

He really is a sick puppy. He needs to be boycotted completely. Disgrace to mankind, that war monger.

  • Ludwig's Van says:

His foot keeps falling out of his mouth.

  • Tiredoiftall says:

What a disgusting tool of Baku.

I understand the point of view that Anna has come out against the war in Ukraine , but the tenor (I won’t even use his name) certainly is an advocate of ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh.

He has been rewarded–if the directorship of opera in Baku is a great honor–for his fealty.

How can any singer with a conscience share a stage with this second-rate goon? Why do western theaters continue to hire him?

  • yaron says:

Sad and allarming. This is History in geological dimentions. The collaps of empires costs many lives. We are not yet past the results of the demise of the Habsburgs and the Ottomans – and the breakup of the USSR is still in progress. The time of the breaking of nations are hard times, and, as it is on a global scale, harder times might follow. Everywhere, one must strive to keep ones humanity, because that ugly tide might reach any shore, no place is absolutly safe.

  • VivAzeri! says:

And he is absolutely right. I support him.

  • Ali says:

Where did your blind eyes see call for ethnic cleansing?

  • MMcGrath says:

Well aren’t he and Anna a magnificent couple?! Disgusting thugs. Fascists and cretins, soon to face unemployment again as they are “ethically” cleansed – once again – from opera house and festival rosters.

Stupid people just won’t die. They hang around to annoy and make us cringe.

  • Jonathan Sutherland says:

Whilst there may be a certain ambiguity about Donna Anna’s support (or allegedly non-support) of Putin’s war in Ukraine, there is no ambivalence at all about Yusif the Useless’ genocidal views of Armenians.
This third rate metallic warbler, whose career was only possible because he became Mr. Netrebko, should be banned from any opera house or concert hall with an iota of ethics or respect for basic human rights.
If that means losing the dubious benefit of his intonation-impaired zhena, so be it.

  • Lawrence Kershaw says:

I suppose, without making light of a dreadful situation, we can finally say that the terrible crime of his voice being heard in great houses has been surpassed by a one that’s worse. Casting Directors, especially those who toadied to Netrebko, take note.

  • Sanity says:

Until when will so many top opera houses in this world keep giving work to this ABSOLUTE ASSHOLE who, on top of this kind of behavior, is a DREADFUL singer who would NEVER have had 5% of the career he has if he wasn’t Mr. Netrebko???

  • Jonathan Sutherland says:

In February 2020, Yusif the Useless refused to sing at the Semperoper Dresden Opera Ball as contracted because he would have had to perform with Armenian soprano Ruzan Mantashyan.
Given the dubious box office power of Mr Netrebko, the craven Semperoper management acceded to his outrageous demands and replaced the undeserving Miss Mantashyan.
Isn’t it time that every self-respecting singer in the business refused to appear with this blatantly racist, genocide supporting, miserable excuse for a tenor – who also happens to be an utterly appalling human being?

  • Dixie says:

Would it be possible to have an English translation of Mr. Netrebko’s enthusiasm? I tried to copy the text into the Google Translator, but was unsuccessful. Thanks in advance to whomever can help!

    • Berni Sanders says:

Here you are, from Google Translate:

As a result of 24-hour local anti-terror operations:

      The separatists surrendered!

More than 90 combat positions were taken over by the Azerbaijani army!

      in Karabakh economic district

the reintegration of the living Armenian population within the framework of the constitutional requirements of Azerbaijan has begun!

The process of disarmament of illegal armed forces in the territory of Azerbaijan has started!
