After 27 years, a string quartet brings on new leader
NewsThe Aviv Quartet have announced that its co-founder Sergey Ostrovsky is stepping down after 27 years.
He is to be replaced by the the French violinist Anna Göckel, 30.
Sergey says: ‘I feel that I have accomplished my mission as Primarius of the Aviv Quartet, rtealised my dreams, performed everything I ever wanted, played all over the world. Now – time for others to enjoy it and for me to concentrate on different projects.’
Ostrovsky was the only remaining member of the original (Israeli) quartet. In recent years the quartet’s playing was rough and loud. Any semblance to what it was is a big question.
The concert the Aviv Quartet gave last year in the Schubertiade in Riehen near Basle was extremely good and especially the sound the produced was the most beautiful I lately heard of a string quartet.
