Netrebko’s singing Trovatore in the Colon
OperaIt’s said to be the first Trovatore that Buenos Aires has seen this century.
The casting is Russophile: Soprano Anna Netrebko with husband Yusif Eyvazov as Leonora and Manrico; Azucena is the Russian mezzo Olesya Petrova; Argentine baritone Fabián Veloz sings Luna; the Italian Giacomo Sagripanti, head of the Tbilisi Opera in Georgia, conducts the orchestra and chorus of Teatro Colon.
Shame!
Probably the two most courageous classical musicians out there today. Prosecuted for standing up for what’s right and yet they persist.
Standing up for what is right?! The invasion of another sovereign country, already part-occupied by invasionary forces? Can’t agree with you. Given that Netrebko has an Austrian passport and could have easily extricated herself from Russian political obligations she chose unwisely.
AN has lived in Vienna since 2005. When asked by Gelb when the war started to condemn Putin, she said she couldn’t condemn Putin, she has family in Russia, however, she condemned Russia for invading Ukraine. She then was named an enemy of Russia and since that time cannot enter Russia. Gelb was unresonable.
Remind me when and where it was declared that Anna was made an enemy of Russia??
Dmitri shares the basic bloodthirstiness and civilizational subhumanity seemingly embedded in the vast majority of Russians worldwide (i.e. wherever they live).
Replace “Russians” with “black people” and tell me if you’d still find it okay to write this message. Probably not, so why don’t you keep your Mein Kampf stuff out of this?
I have nothing to apologize for. You are an exceptionally evil and bloodthirsty people as centuries of history prove. And worse you and so many other Russians seem proud of this. Nothing like post-Nazi Germany who has made reparations to many of its victims or descendants and whose barbarism was of much shorter duration.
WTF?
She also has family in Russia and very wasy to put them even more at risk. She isn’t Austrian, just her passport.
Can you bend over any further for them?
Sure, vatnik.
Here’s one cent for your effort. You’re gonna be a rubble billionaire next year!
Prosecuted? I think you mean persecuted!!
Russian orc.
Engaging a third rate tenor and a second rate wobbling diva drives home that the Colón is far from being what it used to be.
Opera singing isn’t what it used to be!
Singing in the colon must be hard. I wouldn’t even have thought it possible.
Good one. There is a too obvious secondary joke.
AN ain’t as hot as she was. Sagripanti is an opportunist, a charisma-free carver who would have no career were he not Italian.
It’s time for a Colonoscopy!! End game.
I’ve heart of head tone and chest tone, but colon tone is new to me …
Yet more evidence of the ongoing artistic (let alone moral) decline of the Colon, a once prestigious opera house.
There is a cd of a Colon Trovatore: Leontyne Prince, Cossotto, Bergonzi and Cappuccilli….
That was in 1957….
They don’t look like they’re starving.
I agree they are not standing up for what is right but have you not seen the number of Putin’s critics who have died from falling out of tall buildings? His reach is worldwide and I don’t blame them for fearing for their lives should they criticize him. Easy to condemn them but our lives are not at risk if we do..
Do you remember the activist arrested when his flight from Athens was divierted and landed in Bielorrusia ?
I wonder what happened to him….
So glad their appalling noise is polluting the other hemisphere…
As Yusef the Useless usually sings out of his arse, the Colon is obviously a perfect match.
Netrebko knowingly and willingly posed and photographed herself with Putin sided with him and maybe profited from it. She should have stayed away. She is a singer and there was no need for her to get involved in politics. She would have still become the wealthy person she is simple by singing. As simple as that.
The outrageous thing is the fees she must have collected in Argentina to please a few of while half the country lives in poverty.
I wonder what do you think of Van Cliburn, who made a fortune thanks of political propaganda….
Was he a good pianist, at all ?
