Ex-Breslin aide heads Music Academy
NewsHerbert Breslin was the toughest PR nut in the opera cookie, a battler who broke balls for a living. Now, one of his flaks has been appointed head of a respected educational institute.
Funny old world.
Press release:
The Music Academy (in Santa Barbara) is delighted to announce the appointment of Shauna Quill, current Executive Director of the New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), as its new President and CEO beginning November 1. Quill succeeds Scott Reed, who served in that capacity for twelve years. Quill, trained as a flutist, joined the NYYS as Executive Director in 2011, and leaves behind an enviable roster of accomplishments from her time with that institution. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of the University of Chicago, and has held senior leadership positions at the Aspen Music Festival and School, La Jolla Music Society, and the Herbert Breslin Agency in New York.
Would it not be more accurate to say she had been one several artists’ managers at Breslin’s agency on joining the company after graduation?
She has excellent experience in many areas. To refer to her as Breslin’s “flak” is quite rude.
I do think there are career accomplishments worthy of acknowledgement beyond her opening rounds with HB.
Her experience is extensive and she is both wonderful and beloved. If you read further in the release, Glenn Dicterow’s comments underscore this. The posting comment is snarky and uninformed. Please take time to be informed.
I believe she was Executive Director of the University of Chicago Presents (within the department of music) not “the University of Chicago”. Slight difference.
Please note that the correct term, if you want to use it, is “flack.” “Flak” refers not to a publicist, but to anti-aircraft fire.
Herbert Breslin still making headlines I see. Legends never die.
