Political pressure?

Comments

  • Serge says:

Politicians and police decide gets to perform in Estonia. Well. But keep in mind: This is to avoid us beeing as unfree as Russia, where… politicians and police decide who gets to perform.

I don’t know if Orwell is giggling or crying from heaven.

    • Nicholas says:

Serge, your irony is not without some justification, but don’t you think Orwell would allow himself a tacit smile in the knowledge that today’s Russia is more free than the totalitarianism of the Soviet Union under Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Chernenko, Andropov and Gorbachev? I’m sure Orwell and Solzhenitsyn are sharing notes and having this discussion in literary paradise. Why much of the West allows itself to have the ruling class use Trotskyite and Marxist tactics in foreign policy, education, and cultural censorship is something beyond my comprehension.

    • Despina Gattina says:

Maybe people weren’t buying tickets to har this over-the-hill diva? Estonia, right next to Russia and only recently out from under the Soviet boot, is one of the worse places in the world to try to sell tickets to hear this Putin-supporter.

  • Observing says:

It’s becoming increasingly fashionable to ride on the political bandwagon by signing her up, and then making a big fuss about cancelling her, as if to say oh look how virtuous and politically correct we are. And now by cancelling her, you have now heard of us.

Free publicity for the organisers, frankly.

  • Clem says:

That google search alert on “Anna Netrebko” is really paying off.

  • Jean says:

How on earth anyone was even considering of putting them to perform in Estonia, country with 10% of their population Ukrainian refugees ?
Next stop would have been Ukraine, really.

  • guest says:

But they can give a concert at Sankt Petersburg instead! it’s so close – and why not? Last year Yusif performed in the season opening “Pikovaya Dama” at Bolshoi and in December gave a big pop concert at the Moscow Crocus hall. Russian newspapers diligently report every success of the national diva. Press and readers rejoice when their national opera singer performs somewhere despite the protests of “Ukrainian Nazis” or wins a trial with the MET showing the rotten West who is stronger. Haша Aнна молодец!

  • Guest says:

Political pressure needs to be put on Prime Minister Kaia Kallas to explain why her husband is doing business with the Russians.

  • reizl says:

Estonia/Tallinn is not on Netrebko’s schedule from 16.04.2022.
Ii is just unvalidated information, due whatever the reasons are.

  • Greg says:

No explanation needed. She supports Putin. He murders thousands and she smiles and shakes his hand. All because she wants to keep the money flowing into her bank account. She is greedy and pathetic

  • Gualtier M says:

I believe that photoshop was the reason…

  • Guest against quislings says:

No room for quislings in Estonia!

  • Guest says:

It’s simple: they don’t work with Berin Art anymore. For about a year.

  • Harpist says:

I visited Riga briefly after their independence with my school orchestra and choir many years back. Since the school had a modern language tract (including Russian – and an old language one with ancient Greek), we were specifically told to NOT use Russian in communicating as this was not viewed favorable. Some tried and it didn’t go well.
Can’t imaging why they don’t want to listen to Russian puppet Anna and her totally overrated tenor hubby.
She used to be phantastic years back. Now probably still good but politically tainted which would make me avoid her. And if hubby signs I wouldn’t go. Not going to inflict that upon me.

  • Shlomo Katz says:

Politcal pressure, or just a reflection of Estonians not wanting avowed fascists to perform in their country?

  • Wienerin says:
