San Fran changes principal cello after 49 years
OrchestrasSan Francisco Opera Orchestra has chosen Evan Kahn to be their first new principal cellist since 1974.
Kahn, who starts next month, inherits the seat from David Kadarauch.
Kahn graduated in 2018 from an Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Opera is way too hard for this fella! They should’ve just upgraded Peter Myers to the principal spot. Mr. Myers is a very sensitive musician. However Mr. Kahn is just not good enough. Youth Orchestra coaching is more appropriate.
Sour grapes, much?
My brother in Christ, he won a blind audition for the spot. He objectively is good enough. Do you really not understand how auditions work? Are you ok?
If he has this great gig, why does he look so sad?
Nobody inherits seats from people. They replace them when they win the audition.
Just 49 years? I knew he wouldn’t last.
Evan is a wonderful cellist and the finest human being. They are lucky to have him !
My wife and I got a huge laugh from the comment below by “Old Man in the Midwest”. Best wishes to Evan as he starts this immensely rewarding position! I enjoyed every minute (well, almost every minute) of those 49 years.
He has enormous shoes to fill. It has been 49 years of perhaps the single greatest musical contribution to the Bay Area music scene. SF Opera is the jewel because of him. Yes, it is an important job. We all wish Evan well.
