Leading US cello teacher dies
RIPThe much loved cello teacher Irene Sharp died yesterday, aged 87.
Her students included Matt Haimovitz, David Requiro, Philadelphia principal Hae-yi Ni and San Francisco associate principal Amos Yang.
She was on the faculties of Mannes College in New York and the University of California at Berkeley. She was also Artistic Director of California Summer Music.
I can’t imagine a summer without Irene! And only 87! Heaven has added another musical genius to the most talented orchestra ever assembled!
only 87 is not so young.
57 is young
A huge loss! I still remember her like it was just yesterday! I studied with her from 74 to 78. I remember her garage studio where she would teach and once a month, she would gather her students to do a master class in her living room. Her husband would cook up a feast for us after the class. Because of her, zi got to spend a summer at Tanglewood and majored in Music Ed at USC. I hope she is still playing beautiful music in heaven. RIP Ireni.
