Under the new Giorgia Meloni law which requires opera managers to retire at 70, the San Carlo Theatre in Naples has dumped its French boss Stephane Lissner, who had a birthday recently.

His successor is to be  Carlo Fuortes, former head of the national broadcaster RAI, who resigned two months ago in opposition to the Meloni government’s policies. Fuortes is almost 64.
