His condition, he says, is improving. He tells the Morgenpost: ‘I’m much better. It was a big step forward for me to be able to conduct concerts standing up again. Let’s see how it goes, I hadn’t thought about my future for the past year. I’m just starting to think about future plans again. It depends on how quickly I feel better.’

He will next conduct the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in Berlin at the Waldbühne on August 19.

    Not exactly.
    First Köln, August 12
    then Luzern, August 15
    then Salzburg, August 17
and then Waldbühne Berlin, August 19
All with West-Eastern Divan Orchestra & Martha Argerich

    • A.L. says:

And you really believe Argerich will be showing up? The Barenboim situation reminds me of the former USA Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and, today, of Dianne Feinstein and Joe Biden, or Plácido Domingo, et.al., people whose best days were/are long behind them but who refused/refuse to look in the mirror or into the sunset. They and their handlers exist in a bottomless pit of arrogance and self-entitlement. It’s all about power and its addictive property. They can’t/won’t let go.

  • Iphigenia in Aulide says:

Bravo Maestro! Wishing you TONS of good health.

  • Alviano says:

Oh dear, will this never end….

  • Davis says:

This man should conduct as long as he can. Of course, his head strong attitude and our sincere well wishes need to outweigh those who prefer to be …”sauer”

  • Stephan von Cron says:

I’m always fascinated by the power of resistance in cruel, power-hungry people. Naturally he’s not alone, but there are also generous, humane and loving great artists. A real mystery, the allotment of extraordinary gifts.

  • Maria Wimmer says:

    Very good news!

  • Corno di Caccia says:

I very much doubt if the odious individuals who love rubbing other people’s noses in the dirt continuously are paragons of vurtue themselves. More like vultures! Look in your mirrors, folks, and see what your reflection is really saying about you!

  • Zarathusa says:

Thank God Dan’s condition is improving to the point where he can once again do what he loves to do most…standing up! I am currently penning an opera ( in choice Italian!) about a profound stutter who upon reading the life of Neil Sedaka discovers that Neil does not lisp when he sings. Thus he is determined to “sing” the rest of his life instead of “speak” to cure his stuttering problem. He becomes a world famous operatic tenor singing in all of the major operatic venues. Until one day his fiancee overhears him “talking” in the shower and joyfully tells him that he’s cured! Realizing that he no longer needs to sing-to-survive, he desperately drinks from a bottle of LiquidPlummer. His fiancee sings the final aria as a solo while he gurgles.

  • PG VIENNA says:

Great news! Get well Maestro !!

  • Emil says:

The obsession with physical prowess (Look at me, I can stand up for a long time) is revealing of the “maestro myth” (to borrow Lebrecht’s phrase: ageless, superhuman, omnipotent.

While it’s of course good to hear Barenboim talk of improving health, why should a standing conductor be better than a sitting one? There’s no shame in using a chair, and an exhausted conductor is no good to anyone. Sit down and make music and everything will be well.

  • Thomas LaRusso says:

I’m waiting to see see someone conduct lying down or from a casket.

  • Sandra says:

I’m so happy that your health is improving!!
Dear maestro , I hope to see you conducting and playing piano , as soon as possible!!
    Welcome back!!❤️
