Argerich stuns Colon with Shostakovich
OrchestrasThe Martha Argerich Festival continues at the Colon opera in Buenos Aires.
The latest episode had Gidon Kremer and Madara Pêtersone playing a Kancheli duet, and Argerich playing the first Shostakovich piano concerto with Sergei Nakariakov as the star trumpet soloist.
A staggering performance.

Inspiring as always.
It’s miraculous and joyous in equal proportion – (the encore of the scherzo of Schumann Quintet also lifted the roof of the Colon). The playing is as vital, fresh, exciting, daring and unexpected, but so formidably in control as it ever was – so sorry, I’m running out of superlatives!

An absolutely staggering performance! Check out William Kapell’s live performance of the Shostakovich with the Philadelphia Orchestra when he was only twenty-three years old. It is also a phenomenal performance.

The contrast with another aging star — Placido Domingo — could not be more stark.
