The Martha Argerich Festival continues at the Colon opera in Buenos Aires.

The latest episode had Gidon Kremer and Madara Pêtersone playing a Kancheli duet, and Argerich playing the first Shostakovich piano concerto with Sergei Nakariakov as the star trumpet soloist.

A staggering performance.

Watch while you can before they take it down.

    Funny encore.

One of the most beautiful things I have seen in ages. But do check out this one as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcwmthV-8zI

  • Jeffrey Biegel says:

    Inspiring as always.

  • Nicholas says:

It’s miraculous and joyous in equal proportion – (the encore of the scherzo of Schumann Quintet also lifted the roof of the Colon). The playing is as vital, fresh, exciting, daring and unexpected, but so formidably in control as it ever was – so sorry, I’m running out of superlatives!

  • Jeff Harding says:

Anyone want to take a stab at illustrating this title?

    • AD says:

I guess the editor didn’t have the letter ó in his keyboard, so the famous Buenos Aires theater has become a body part.

  • Janet says:

    Extraordinary.

  • David Hyslop says:

Sylvain Gasancon is the conductor with Argerich , Nakariakov and the Buenos Aires Philharmonic. Spectacular performance.

  • Robert Levin says:

An absolutely staggering performance! Check out William Kapell’s live performance of the Shostakovich with the Philadelphia Orchestra when he was only twenty-three years old. It is also a phenomenal performance.

  • The View from America says:

Wonderful music-making. Martha Argerich shows how to do it — and to do it well — for great artists as they grow older.

The contrast with another aging star — Placido Domingo — could not be more stark.

  • Michael Emmerson says:

The stunning performance could not have been achieved without the excellent conductor Sylvain Gasançon!
