A Haydn cycle recorded through the night
NewsIn autumn 2020, during Covid, the piano professor Daniel-Ben Pienaar was allowed overnight access to London’s Royal Academy of Music.
Alone, with a Steinway and one pair of suspended omni-directional microphones, in silence and without a producer or engineer, Pienaar recorded the 48 Haydn piano sonatas in eight nights over a four-month period.
The box comes out next month.
It contains 39 authenticated solo keyboard works from 1765 and nine earlier works that may, or may not, be by Hadyn.
