Press release:

Talent Norway are, in collaboration with the Oslo Philharmonic and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, launching the Nordic Conductors´ Forum, including high-end masterclasses with maestros Klaus Mäkelä and Sakari Oramo.

The Nordic Conductors´ Forum is a collaboration with leading Nordic orchestras and supported by the Savings Bank Foundation DNB. The concept is built on the Norwegian national conductors´ program – Dirigentløftet, but this time at a Nordic level.

The aim is to promote and develop Nordic conducting talents and to advance Nordic repertoire. Participating conductors must be at a high artistic level and must demonstrate a passion for contributing to Nordic culture and the advancement of Nordic classical music. The events will, in addition to the masterclasses, become hubs for other conducting activities, music professionals and media.

The Oslo Philharmonic aims to be a driving force in the future of classical music. An essential element of this is to encourage and provide opportunities for new talent through a range of different projects and programmes. This new initiative under the umbrella of Dirigentløftet is a wonderful way for us to get to know talented young conductors and give them invaluable experience with the orchestra and our chief
conductor Klaus Mäkelä, says Alex Taylor, Head of artistic planning at Oslo Philharmonic.

The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra is at the forefront of the classical music world. To be able to be that, we need to be active in the entire chain from the early years of education and therefore we place great importance on our children and youth activities. An important part for us is our school concerts and our orchestra academy, and being part of the training of young conductors is a natural step for us. Therefore, we are happy to be part of the Nordic Conductors Forum and Difrigentlöftet together with our honorary conductor Sakari Oramo, states Fredrik Andersson, Program director of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

Surprise surprise – Norman isn’t calling this discrimination

  • Anton Bruckner says:

    Sounds somewhat parochial?

  • John W. Norvis says:

So what’s new? Every time one of these Nordic nudnik sticks comes to town, s/he/y brings a piece by a compatriot.

  • Pianofortissimo says:

Great! But I am sure that Sweden will screw it all up if it is to be at the Scandinavian level. We are pretty good at it!

  • trumpetherald says:

Great!!!! They are the very best!!!! I haven´t played under a single scandinavian conductor who disappointed me in 40 years….The they just have a knack for it…surely because each of them plays an orchestra instrument on the highest level, not just piano….And because they learn to conduct an orchestra, not just a piano, several times each week in the conservatory.

  • Niklaus says:

Probably another program led by HarrisonParrott, like most events and orchestras in Norway.
    Don’t be fooled.
