Malaysian Tippett fan is Germany’s new GMD

The Malaysian-born conductor Harish Shankar has been elected General Music Director of the Schleswig-Holstein State Theatre and Symphony Orchestra from 2024/2025. Shankar, 39, is currently first Kapellmeister at the Meiningen State Theatre.

He featured passionately in John Bridcut’s new documentary on the troubled life of the English composer Michael Tippett.
