BBC upgrades a conductor
NewsThe jeopardised BBC Concert Orchestra has been headless since the death of Bramwell Tovey a year ago.
It has now promoted Anna-Maria Helsing from Principal Guest Conductor to Chief, starting in October (if the orchestra survives).
Helsing, 51, is a Swedish-speaking Finn, the first woman to lead a Finnish orchestra.
Wonderful!
Oh dear, with the fate of this band on the cards, she won’t be at the helm for long…
A lot of Finnish conductors around nowadays. Many are not particularly good
Surely not another woman conductor & Finnish conductor- but good luck to her.
Finnish conductors still seem to have a contact at the BBC…
