Oslo Phil boss quits
OrchestrasThe Oslo Philharmonic is lamenting the loss of Ingrid Røynesdal, who has captained the ship for ten years. She is going on to run the national museum.
She said: ‘We have one of the most sought-after chief conductors in the world, a fantastic international position, brilliant tours ahead of us and a very good audience situation in Oslo. In other words, the organization is well equipped for the future, and after ten years as a leader it is natural to pass on the baton.’
Sounds more like leaving a sinking ship,- The orchestra is not in the best shape financially, and there are some serious clash between the musicians and their admin.
Only missing the announcement of Klaus leaving for Chicago in 2027.
Wait and see.
E.K.
Chicago, Paris, and Amsterdam at the same time??
How dare you come here spouting truths?
KM going to Chicago (cat so far out of the bag it’s having kittens) is the most ridiculous career strategy, like his management decided “well he’s only got 10 years left so he better do everything all at once!”. Indeed, perhaps he’s just a victim of the narcissism of his agent, refusing to surrender to retirement.
I like the kid and he’s got the potential to become one of the greats, but let’s not burn him out before he’s 40!
Lots of American orchestras looking for a new MD at around that time—Chicago, Cleveland, and LA to name just the obvious. If he must take a job in the US, he can only do so after leaving both Oslo and Paris. In that case I don’t see Chicago has a particular advantage. Cleveland is certainly interested, judging by what concerts they are giving Mäkelä to conduct now. LA might also be. Although he has not conducted in LA yet, people he is close to (Yuja Wang and Salonen) have long associations there.
