Mirga’s sister steps up
OrchestrasThe freelance conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla has recruited her pianist sister Onutė for a Birmingham concert this December.
The programme amounts to a tour d’horizons of Baltic eastern Europe:
Čiurlionis, In the Forest (18mins)
Weinberg, Clarinet Concerto (25mins)
Loboda, Requiem for Ukraine (4mins)
Weinberg, 12 Miniatures for Flute (20mins)
Kakhidze, Brotherhood (32mins)

I would go to this concert just to hear her conduct the tone poem Miskra by the Lithuanian composer Ciurlionis . There is a wonderful performance of the work by Mirga and The Royal Birmingham Conservatoir Orchestra on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XABr9QZyvSQ
Broad horizons, the Baltic has: apparently they extend all the way to Georgia, Kakhidze’s homeland!
;-))
Really cool programme. Wish we had stuff like this in london more.
Birmingham is just an hour and a quarter on the train from Euston, so you could go anyway. Mind you, there are no fast late trains back…
