Great pianist dies, 93
RIPThe Salzburger Nachrichten has reported the death yesterday of the much-recorded pianist Ingrid Haebler.
Haebler was the go-to Mozartian on the Philips label until Alfred Brendel came along. She recorded almost everything Mozart wrote for piano, as well as the complete Schubert sonatas and music by Johann Christian Bach. Her collected works run to 58 CDs.
Raised in Poland until she was ten, she was moved by her parents to Salzburg in 1939 in order to study at the Mozarteum.
A thoughtful, sensitive artist, she was among the first mainstreamers to play chamber music with period instruments.
