Chicago Opera has new chief
OperaChicago Opera Theater has chosen veteran director Lawrence Edelson to be its next General Director. Edelson will take over from Interim General Director Meaghan Stainback Smallwood who will revert to her previous role as COT’s Director of Development. Smallwood has been managing the company since former General Director Ashley Magnus quit in March.
Wasn’t Mr. Edelson recently appointed a professor of opera studies at the University of Houston school of music?
They just announced Daniel and Kathleen Belcher, as well as Keith Chambers, as faculty additions, so I guess he pulled out!

Yes, and he barely lasted a year. Not sure how an unpleasant man with little more than a dance background has clawed his way to so many opera companies. Casting at COT was already disastrous since the departure of Brian Dickie.
