  • Gustavo says:

    Boring programme, sorry to say.

    • Mr. Ron says:

Gustavo, the program is far from boring and includes:

Georges Bizet Suite No. 1 from the Opera “Carmen”, assembled by Ernest Guiraud Georges Bizet Habanera aus “Carmen”, 1. Akt, Nr. 5 Lili Boulanger D‘un matin de printemps (Fassung für Orchester 1918) Hector Berlioz Ouvertüre “Le Corsaire”, op. 21 Charles Gounod “O ma lyre immortelle” Arie aus der Oper “Sapho”, 3. Akt, Nr. 19 Maurice Ravel Daphnis et Chloé, Suite No. 2 Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns “Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix”, Arie aus der Oper “Samson et Dalila”

It is all FRENCH, however, which also explains why Yannick was chosen, and maybe that is why you don’t like it. I’d say, the program is pretty original.

      • Gustavo says:

“All French” with a Habanera to start with…

You’ve forgotten Ravel’s Bolero, which is pathologically repetitive, emotionally cold, and totally overplayed at open-air events.

  • Barry says:

I think they were down on him for a few years – and had stopped inviting him – after he cancelled a couple concerts he had scheduled with them. Filling in for Gergiev at Carnegie Hall must have turned that around.

  • MacroV says:

They could do worse for New Years.

Still waiting for them to invite Sir Simon, though.

    • Julien says:

They haven’t worked with Rattle for years. He conducted them no less than 130 times between 1993 and 2015. Since then, nothing. I don’t know why, but there must have been a fallout of some kind.
As for YNS, I heard good opera performances, but I always found him ranging between average and mediocre in symphonic repertoire.

  • Ziobrifa says:

the 10-year requirement is there (first concert with the philharmonic in 2010) but he has only 20 active concerts with them (a bit too few to build a strong relationship), so I see a neujahrskonzert difficult before 2028

  • Thornhill says:

    What a dull program.

It’s an outdoor summer concert — have some fun and program Gershwin and a bit of film music.

  • Gustavo says:

They could have done some British light music with selected coronation spectaculars in honour of King Charles III.

    Or a Russian-Ukrainian appeasement potpourri.
