Maestro move: New baton in Bari
OperaThe Italian Stefano Montanari has been appointed principal conductor of the Orchestra of the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, a historic opera venue.
Montanari is former concertmaster of the Accademia Bizantina, a period instrument ensemble,and music director of the Lyon baroque ensemble I Bollenti Spiriti.

The ceiling of the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari has (or used to have) a scene of matadors fighting fierce bulls. This was possibly symbolic of the singer / audience relationship in a regional Italian opera house.
