LSO names Argentine chorus director as Halsey steps back
OrchestrasMessage from the London Symphony Orchestra:
After a comprehensive recruitment process we are thrilled to announce that Mariana Rosas has been appointed as our new Chorus Director, taking up the post from 1st August 2023.
Mariana has until now been one of our Associate Chorus Directors, and we are looking forward to working with her on new projects as she leads us in this new role. Commenting on her appointment, Mariana said, “. I am thrilled and honoured to have been chosen as their Chorus Director. I look forward to leading them in their next chapter as they take on diverse future projects and continue their long-standing collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra.”
She will succeed Simon Halsey, but we won’t be saying goodbye to him. After his last concert as Chorus Director in June, he will become Chorus Director Emeritus and continue to work with us. Simon added, “I am deeply honoured, after 12 very happy, creative, and productive years at the helm of the magnificent London Symphony Chorus, to maintain a performing link with this extraordinary group of committed people. It remains an honour to be part of the @London Symphony Orchestra family.”
Rosas is conductor of London Youth Choirs and University of Birmingham. Halsey, who also works in Birmingham with the CBSO chorus, is stepping bck at a time when his longtime ally Simon Rattle is leaving the LSO.
“Who also works in Birmingham”. He’s directed the CBSO Chorus for 40 years as of next season and his successor at the LSO trained under him at the University of Birmingham.
