Brain tumour claims Swiss star, 39

The composer Eliana Burki’s managements have posted this sombre notice:

We are deeply saddened to announce that the world-renowned alphorn virtuoso, singer and composer Eliana Burki passed away on April 24, 2023, in her native Switzerland at the age of 39, as a result of a malignant brain tumor.

But Eliana lived it for us every day: She was the epitome of friendliness and cordiality, an extremely positive person who continuously radiated joy and goodness, which was a wellspring of motivation for everyone. For this very reason, she will leave an enormous gap with her international audience, her artist colleagues and above all with her fellow human beings. In my thoughts, I continue to send her family, her two children and all her relatives a great deal of strength, confidence and courage.”

Concert tours have taken Eliana Burki beyond Europe to the USA, South America and the Middle and Far East, among other places – and made her the most sought-after ambassador for the Swiss national instrument in jazz, classical and world music.
