Boston Symphony hires 3 cellists
OrchestrasTwo East Coasters and a Korean have passed the latest auditions to fill long-standing cavities in the Boston Symphony.
Jonah Ellsworth is local, from Cambridge, Mass. Roric Cunningham is from New Hampshire. And Christine Lee made her debut aged 9 with the Seoul Philharmonic before being shipped off to Curtis.
The BSO is still cogitating over its next concertmaster.
I heard Jonah Ellsworth about seven years ago in Prague, soloist with Ben Zander and the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in Don Quixote. I think he was just finishing high school then and he was outstanding. No surprise he’d land such a job.
Jonah is 29yo so either it’s been far longer than 7 years ago or Jonah was probably finishing his undergrad
