Bonn mourns opera chief, 64
RIPBonn Theatre’s head of opera, Andreas Meyer, died tragically over the Easter weekend of a heart attack.
Andreas K W Meyer joined Bonn as head dramaturg in 2013, revitalising its repetroire with neglected early 20th century works and winning awards for works by Walter Braunfels, Franco Alfano and Franz Schreker.
Friends described him as ‘an opera encyclopedia on two legs’.
Among other esoteric interests, he contributed an article in 1988 to a symposium on Frederick Delius.
I remember Andreas KW Meyer from the time, when he was Chefdramaturg at Kiel Opera under Peter Dannenberg and later Kirsten Harms. It was always a pleasure meeting him. R. I. P.
He was a good one.
