Barenboim is sick with flu
OrchestrasMessage from the Pierre Boulez Saal, Berlin:
We would like to thank Michael Wendeberg for stepping in at short notice for Maestro Daniel Barenboim, who had to cancel his appearance in this week’s concerts due to a flu infection. Wendeberg will conduct the performance on Saturday, April 29, and perform Philippe Manoury’s ‘Das wohlpräparierte Klavier’ on Sunday, April 30.
As the former pianist of the Ensemble intercontemporain and professor for piano and performance practice at the Barenboim-Said Akademie, he is closely associated both with this institution and the work of Pierre Boulez.
We wish Maestro Barenboim a speedy recovery.
“‘Flu.”
Mene mene tekel upharsin.
I don’t understand those four words, but from the number of down votes (12) I guess they are uncomplimentary.
I think the King James Bible renders it as “thou art weighed in the balance and found wanting” (from the story of Belshazzar).
So many seem to be sick with flu or non-covid very bad colds at the moment, as well as covid not going away, and so grounded from their jobs with feeling so unwell. Really wish Danny a speedy recovery and back to his music-making of all sorts.

Take it easy; influenza has the power to kill, very quickly.
