Sax king dies
RIPThe death has been announced of Wayne Shorter, a legend of jazz saxophone playing.
He was 89 and had 12 Grammys on his mantelpiece.
Wayne Shorter, my best friend, left us with courage in his heart, love and compassion for all, and a seeking spirit for the eternal future. He was ready for his rebirth. As it is with every human being, he is irreplaceable . . . pic.twitter.com/MRVfXhaz8T

I got to play in a Wind Ensemble with Wayne’s Group at the Monterey Jazz Festival.
Even in his 60’s he looked youthful.
He had so much presence in his sound, it was a thrill!
And what a Composer!
He was a Giant.
How I envy you! Playing with him must have been a unique experience.
a true giant, fabulous composer in jazz, never stopped to research, an innovator even during his last years… I saw him 3 times live with his quartet (Perez, Patitucci, Blade) and, although he didn’t have enough energy to scream on the tenor but still able to do it on the soprano, he made me live some of the best experiences of “instant musical creation”… always grateful to his mastery, now he can rest with Trane and Miles
At the height of his fame he still used regularly to play Cats on Broadway. Lovely gesture.
A god among musicians. I will be tribute listening all weekend for sure!
