Death of an exiled Czech concertmaster
RIPThe outstanding Czech violinist Ladislav Jásek, winner of the 1956 Carl Flesch Competition, has died in Adelaide at the age of 93.
After embarking on an international soloist career, he came under pressure from the Czech spy agencies and sought asylum in Australia in 1960. He served as concertmaster of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and in London as co-leader of the Royal Philharmonic.
I grew up with his and Suk’s recording of Bach’s double concerto. Had not seen his name mentioned since the 1970s. Rest in peace
When did he pass away ?
