Dear Deutsche Grammophon fan,

Apple Music Classical launches their brand-new standalone app designed specifically for classical music today. Besides now being fully dedicated to classical music and its artists with the world’s largest classical music catalogue, a key new element for classical fans is the ability to search for individual works and see a presentation of artists’ recordings for each specific work. Offering the highest audio quality available with immersive spatial audio continues to be a prime focus. Apple Music Classical is available at no extra cost as part of the Apple Music subscription.

I got the Apple Music Classical app as soon as possible at 12 midnight. It is well organized, including Composers, Conductors, Orchestras, Soloists, Ensembles, Choirs, Periods, Genres and Instruments. It is free if you have Apple Music.

Does DG still record classical music?

    • Emil says:

The point is not whether they “still” record classical music – Apple wants their back catalogue. There’s a million venues and sites for contemporary recordings, but DG has control of a ton of the legendary recordings from the 20th century and beyond. Apple wouldn’t be able to launch a credible streaming service without the Carlos Kleiber recordings, without most of Karajan, etc. Getting Trifonov, Nézet-Séguin, and so on is just icing on the cake.

    • Barry Guerrero says:

Yes and no. The website is sort of a mess, and DG makes it difficult to find things. Some things come out on CD, but many don’t. Go figure!

It ain’t gonna fix the viola mix.
