American opera star becomes French chevalier
OperaThe French ministry of culture has named Lisette Oropesa Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
Nice little badge.
She tweets:
Je suis amoureuse de la langue et du peuple français, et j’ai consacré mon coeur et âme à la présentation du répertoire français. Être nommé Chevalière des Arts et des Lettres est un grand honneur pour moi. MERCI BEAUCOUP! @RimaAbdulMalak @MinistereCC @jpthiellay 🇫🇷 pic.twitter.com/o7WUCrRRkZ

Well, if Boris can nominate his father, such a Brexit supporter that he is now a French citizen, for a UK gong, why not and American for a French one…?
The Légion d’honneur has always had international members. Jeff Bezos got it only a few weeks ago, seemingly for the great contribution to France of being obscenely rich.
Is the Chevalièr des Arts et des Lettres somehow associated with the Legion d’honneur ?
No, it is not.
She’s wonderful. I still cherish her 2013 performance as Nannetta in the Met HD production of Falstaff.
Not quite 5 years since she conquered the Parisian public as Marguerite (a last minute replacement for Damrau) in Les Huguenots. Well deserved.
Surely, chevalière
Être nomméE (feminine, need the extra e)
A Chevalière, not a Chevalièr
