How touching for Khatia. If Martha likes her, maybe she really deserves the buzz she has been getting, some of your correspondents notwithstanding. I’ll side with Martha.
They have also played four-hand arrangements a couple of times at festivals.
Buniatishvili was almost universally panned for her recording of the great Schubert D. 960, where she adopted daringly (or ridiculously, depending on your tastes) slow tempi for the first two movements. I happened to quite like her approach, particularly as it feels like a highly personal and subjective engagement with the music that stands apart from so many other interpretations that strive for faceless “objectivity.” Do we really need eight bazillion recordings of the D. 960 that all sound largely the same? Hers may not be a “definitive” reading, but I’m glad that it exists as an idiosyncratic alternative to more “idiomatic” and “correct” interpretations.
Richter performance on Eurodisc is also very slow… and very good.
The same could be said for Glenn Gould’s second recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. No, we don’t need any more recordings that sound like all the others.
If you like Schubert’s last sonata played extra slow, try also Sviatoslav Richter.

I see Khatia as an exciting performer but one with distracting mannerisms. The Shubert Sonata is a particular favorite, so I shall seek out the recording.

There is no shortage of talent. There is only a greater misalignment between talent and stardom.
Why is it any surprise that musicians support one another’s work?… Yes, not each and every one agrees with the other’s style or interpretation, but it’s not the total cesspit of antagonism and hatred that everyone who tends to read here assumes that it is. There is also mutual appreciation and support amongst us, you know.
