Finns stunned by principal’s sudden death
RIPThe Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra is shocked at the unexpected death of its eye-catching principal tuba, Petri Keskitalo.
Petri was 50.
No cause has been made known.
Music director Susanna Mälkki writes: ‘A deep sorrow for the devastating news about the passing of Petri Keskitalo, the fantastic tuba player of the Helsinki Philharmonic. He was a unique artist, the solid foundation of the orchestra and an incredible virtuoso musician. We remember him with an enormous gratitude and warmth. May he rest in peace.’
RIP Petri. A magnificent artist and Tubaist. This is a huge loss.
“Unexpected” or “experts baffled” are becoming a bit too frequent in these sad, tragic situations.
Good grief. This has not been a good period for the health of established tuba players. It seems to have started with Floyd Cooley’s passing.
Sad. A fantastic tubist. However, Not so stunning.
Only 50! What on earth is going on?????????
