Dubai Opera names Italian chief
OperaThe the Dubai Opera House, in the United Arab Emirates, has named Paolo Petrocelli as its next sovrintendente.
A former IMG agent, Petrocelli has a spectacularly creative CV.
At his own estimation: ‘A passionate, innovative and dynamic cultural manager, academic and author with an extensive experience in leadership positions in a variety of organizational settings, Paolo Petrocelli is global cultural affairs and performing arts expert.’
You have to be careful with ME countries, you could end up getting the chop or be sent home in pieces like Mr Khashoggi. Which reminds me whatever happened to another former IMG man who we to Dubai via the Albert Hall as I recall.
Too bad the Evelyn Waugh is no longer with us. He certainly could have had fun with an opera company in Dubai!
It’s a concert hall, not an opera company. It is quite beautiful and has good acoustics. I attended the Middle East Symphonic Festival a year ago.
It’s a venue for 2nd rate stand up comics and 3rd rate pop performers, everyone knows that in Dubai, but really very few people care there…anything of actual cultural merit is ignored and sidelined. Singers are routinely amplified in anything vaguely resembling ‘opera’ and the whole joint reeks of monied ignorance…..
