One of the most sacred and visited places in the world for over 160 years, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes will welcome tenor Andrea Bocelli for the first time, on July 16th, 2023 (Sunday). With a sacred repertoire, the performance will be dedicated to families and pilgrims who visit the Sanctuary on that day.
“Our Lady of Lourdes is the saint of miraculous cures and intercedes for those who suffer from sickness of body and soul. In such a difficult moment for all the humanity, it was natural to think of the patroness of the sick to honor the memory of the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic through prayer for music”, says Pedro Bianco, president of Dançar Marketing, a Brazilian entertainment company, creator and responsible for the general coordination of the project.
Entitled “Prayers for Life”, the concert is part of a cycle of performances at Marian Shrines around the world, offered free of charge to pilgrims. Andrea Bocelli, an artist of great faith, has been participating in these celebrations since 2016 and carries with him the quote from Saint Augustine when he states that “The one who sings prays twice”.

  • I beg your pardon says:

Seriously, I can’t be the only one who cannot stand Bocelli’s voice?

I find it weak and feeble, and devoid of any colour and emotion.

      Amongst other things…

    • Carolyn says:

      You are not alone.

    • Drs. theol. Dorothea Killus says:

Seriously, your words sound like a projection of your own condition rather than they would speak of the one you mean. If you cannot stand Andrea Bocelli’s voice, this might be because he, in his whole being, uncovers something in you which needs healing. How come that you are turning the observation of millions of others its opposite? And why is what you say void of any insight into others’ way of singing in comparison with Bocelli’s? And thirdly: Where is your willingness to examine and possibly correct yourself and learn something new?

      • I beg your pardon says:

Ha this is very funny. Ever heard of Pavarotti? Or Hvorostovsky?

No? Sure…stick to your beloved Bocelli, and Katherine Jenkins. REAL opera singers, of course.

You favourite opera is ‘phantom of the opera’ no doubt. Why of course it’s an opera – it has ‘opera’ in its title!

      • trumpetherald says:

His voice is pinched, squeezed, sound projection is poor….But worst of all is his wooden, faceless expressionless, stiff, non musical performing style….Give me Ray Charles any day!!!!!!!

      • Prince Golaud says:

People are entitled to dislike Bocelli’s voice without you trying to psychoanalyze them. They stated – correctly IMO – that his voice is not good. Take it and move on. Or not.

    • Harry Collier says:

But he makes up for it with superb PR and publicity.

    • MusicBear88 says:

I don’t care for his voice when he sings opera (for one, he pushes to try and do bigger parts than he ought to), but some of his sacred music has a purer, unaffected quality that is quite pleasant. I remember in particular his “Mille cherubini in coro” being very lovely.

  • Samach says:

Let’s hope we all witness a miracle at Lourdes when Boccelli finally gains a voice.

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

I wonder if he’ll meet that other teenaged secular saint, St. Greta of Thunberg, there?

The cult of the teenager lives!!

  • Greg Bottini says:

A miracle occurs at Lourdes: to the trumpeting of hosts of angels and the strewing of flower garlands by cherubim, Bocelli, bathed in celestial brilliance, is transmogrified into Gigli.

  • Barry says:

We know what Bocelli sounds like, but why harp on about it?

As far as I’m aware he doesn’t make any unreasonable claims about his ability.
