An American mezzo receives rare German honour
OperaThe New Jersey Kammersängerin Helene Schneiderman has retired after 38 years as a leading personality of Stuttgart State Opera.
In addition to the usual tributes, she was made an honoray member of the company, a very rare distinction.
Helene sang in Stuttgartfrom 1984 to 2022. Her repertoire included the title roles of La Cenerentola, Carmen, Giulio Cesare and L’italiana in Algeri, as well as Smeton, Floßhilde, Hänsel, Sesto, Penelope and Medea. Elsewhere she performed in Munich, Rome, La Scala, Madrid, Covent Garden, Paris, the Met, San Francisco, Seattle, Dresden, Toronto, Salzburg and Tel Aviv.
