An American mezzo receives rare German honour
OperaThe New Jersey Kammersängerin Helene Schneiderman has retired after 38 years as a leading personality of Stuttgart State Opera.
In addition to the usual tributes, she was made an honoray member of the company, a very rare distinction.
Helene sang in Stuttgartfrom 1984 to 2022. Her repertoire included the title roles of La Cenerentola, Carmen, Giulio Cesare and L’italiana in Algeri, as well as Smeton, Floßhilde, Hänsel, Sesto, Penelope and Medea. Elsewhere she performed in Munich, Rome, La Scala, Madrid, Covent Garden, Paris, the Met, San Francisco, Seattle, Dresden, Toronto, Salzburg and Tel Aviv.

Helene is a wonderful artist, singer and person. Fully deserving of this.
Extraordinary. Helene Schneidermann was a fixture of the German circuit when I started working there in 1987. There have been documentaries about her in Germany and her reputation has spread far beyond the Ochsentour circuit. Bravo to her and all she has achieved in that time.
Please note, according to Ms. Schneiderman, she is not retired.

Clearly referring to the Stuttgart Opera, not retiring from her career. According to her management website and Operabase, while she has many engagements, none are with the Stuttgart company.

I remember Helene from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory, although we had different instruments. If I recall, in student productions she was both Ottavia in The Coronation of Poppea and Musetta in Boheme (?), among others. Lovely singer and stage presence.
Funny, of her classmates (excluding Faith Prince of musical comedy fame), she went the furthist.
