Two tenors reunite in tacky Tokyo show
OperaDomingo and Carreras are putting on a tacky tribute concert to the late Luciano Pavarotti, whose brand just grows and grows.
The combined age of the two soloists is 158.
The average audience age will be about the same.
Presumably one is a baritone now …
he has never been – such a tragic ending and pathetic but people still go it seems – so sad
Maybe they’ll make another documentary…
Fellini needed…
Average audience age 158? That’s impressive!
Oh, joy.
By definition anything Domingo does is tacky.
That a ridiculous description. I’m going to the concert with my boyfriend. I’m 32 and my boy-friend is 34. I saw many people of my age at the box office.
Good for them. Why shouldn’t elderly people have a concert they enjoy?
They way they hear, and the way the two sing? It’s a PERFECT match!
While neither of them were my favourite singers 30 years ago, I do think the descriptor “…a tacky tribute concert to the late Luciano Pavarotti…” should wait until one has, at least, a programme of selections to critique… or better still, a reaction after having heard the concert.
Who’s accompanying them? An orchestra?
And who will be the conductor?
And will Domingo have a young guest soprano protegee?
Inquiring minds want to know.
That whole “Three Tenors” malarkey was the first step in the ruination of opera house financial management. After that first event, the recording of which sold CDs on an unprecedented worldwide scale, Big Lucy, Dom, and Joey started charging outrageous fees to sing.
Other singers followed their lead, and that was that.
I likely would never have bought complete operas on CD and DVD, nor attended at an opera house for a live performance had it not been for the Three Tenors Malarkey.
Good for you, SHCL, but that’s not the point I was making.
Lest we ever forget just how great Carreras once was. Was this aria ever sung better? Scroll to 4’50” or so…

Ageist.
Ahhhh… the sound of bitching Americans in the comments never gets old.
Pavarotti was way past his sell by date in his late sixties and was often forced to cancel . Perhaps if he had controlled his gigantic eating habits he would not have died at the relative early age of 71. He was known as fat Lucy.
Most tenors are way past their sell by dates in their late sixties. Basses seem to go on forever though.
Embarassing…..
