The concert pianist who has become an opera star
OperaThe Polish soprano Ewa Plonka who is enjoying a dizzying rise has been reflecting on her previous career, sadly interrupted:
If you wondered what was I doing until my early 30s… here it is.
My upcoming debut at the Royal Opera House brought some memories of my way here, perhaps a different way, definitely a longer way, but my way.
From concert pianist to (briefly) vocal coach in polish conservatory through a few masters degrees and doctoral degree in piano performance in USA, through ALWAYS singing as double major- for fun- then to finding a break through teacher-thank you Nikita Storojev , finally vocal studies at The Juilliard School to the Royal Opera House.
Opera singer not opera star. Maybe some day she’ll be that – or may she will not.
You are wrong. She is an opera star. If you do not know about it… mayby some day you will know, or mayby not.
Don’t know why I wrote that first comment above. Obviously Plonka is an amazing artist. I guess I just had a bad day.
She is amazing!, saw her in Turandot, she is like The Turandot of our times!
Wish I had seen her live in Arena di Verona – Nabucco, what a joy to listen!
One hell of a talent. It appears she’d started cancelling, too, so quite clearly now an opera star.
Ewa is a consummate musician and an all-around great person. She was always a ray of sunshine in the classes we had together during our doctoral degrees. I couldn’t be happier that she’s finding success!
I have to wonder if you are the same Erin who astounded us all with her own vocal and pianistic virtuosity!
A true artist, amazing voice, technique and stage presence! I just saw her Turandot videos, wow!
He tenido la oportunidad de verla en la producción de Nabucco del teatro Real en Madrid, Madre mía! el teatro estaba desbordado de aplausos, y con justa razón, es grandiosa! Que voz!
Please write in English!
I don’t speak a word of Spanish, but I think I can deduce that Carlos saw her in a production of Nabucco in Madrid, and she was great!
Please come to the MET!! One of a kind singer! Absolutely love your Turandot!
The Met will take notice when she is on the decline…that’s their way.
In the meantime, it is wonderful to see such a successful and deserved career!
I’m glad to see a comment section under Slippedisc that isn’t overwhelmingly toxic and bitter. Keep up the good work, everyone!
I’ve never met a more naturally gifted, intellectually curious, and focused musician than Ewa. What an incredible talent! Dr. Plonka, as one of your former professors in your doctoral program, I want to let you know how proud we all are of you and your amazing career – you go, girl!!!
