Berlin’s Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester, conductor Vladimir Jurowski, has installed David Nebel as its concertmaster from this week.

The Swiss violinist, 26, has been studying for the past 10 years in London with Alexander Gilman at the Royal College of Music.

He declares himself ‘extremely excited’.

  • Robert Roy says:

Like policemen, the older I get the younger conductors and concert masters seem to be.

    Best of luck to him.

  • MacroV says:

I’m curious how busy this orchestra is. We keep hearing from some on SD about how most U.S. cities have just one orchestra and Berlin has about seven, but the Berlin RSO seems to do a far smaller number of concerts than the Berlin Phil, at least based on what I see on their website. Is it actually a full-time gig? Radio orchestras used to play on the radio, I assume, but do any do that anymore? Is there something else keeping them busy? Or do these six other orchestras in Berlin collectively add up to the performance load of the Philharmonic?
