Just in: Martha Argerich clears her diary due to a ‘heart problem’
NewsThe outstanding pianist, who is 81, has cancelled three concerts in Lyon for health reasons.
Here’s the local statement:
Which translates as:
Following three concerts at the Berlin Philharmonic with Daniel Barenboim, (and) despite a precarious state of health due to a heart problem, Martha Argerich, suffering, is unable to fulfil her next commitments and (must) cancel recitals and tours until on further notice. She is replaced by her disciple and long-time friend, the pianist Sergio Tiempo, also a pupil of Murray Perahia and Nelson Freire, whom we are happy to welcome to Piano in Lyon and whom we thank very warmly for his participation at short notice in these recitals.
We wish Martha a rapid recovery.
Sad news – wishing her all health. We need her inspired performances.
Best wishes for good health and a speedy recovery. She certainly has earned a break.
She is an inspiration as a woman musician who has character, style and poise, rocking the stages in her 80’s still. I wish her the best and a speedy recovery.
So worried, hope she recovers quickly. [redacted: abuse]
If so, then why didn’t brought write to Norman Lebrecht and tell him of this news on 9th? Perhaps like many of us in the profession, we simply didn’t see it anywhere else – until just now!
Praying she makes a full recovery. We were fortunate to have her and her daughter and grandson play for us in Singapore for three nights last month.
I would imagine her heart broke when she saw how frail her lifelong friend was, and all the energy she expended those 3 nights to encourage him on. It is no wonder she was physically exhausted after those performances
She cancelled two concerts in Lyon and three in Rome. More cancellations to come, I’m afraid.
Pollini, Argerich…. no please, the world still needs you very much, stay here with us for many more years please…..
I wish her well.
She cancelled in 1983 in Cadaques as well [!]- we had Ivo Pogorelich instead.
