German opera boss dies at 90
RIPDie Deutsche Oper am Rhein has announced the death of Kurt Horres, its formidable chief from 1986 to 1996.
An advocate of works suppressed under Hitler, together with Generalmusikdirektor Hans Wallat he revived operas by Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Franz Schreker. He also introduced new works by Udo Zimmermann and Giselher Klebe.

A great Opera intellectual “Impresario”, who knew what he was doing. An old-fashioned (in a very good sense) manager, he loved music and quality. We need more of that kind today.
